On Thursday, I like many others watched the VP debate. Maybe it’s because I don’t know enough about politics, but it didn’t catch my interest as I was watching it, much like the debate at Ole Miss.
Sen. Joe Biden spoke like a politician. Nothing he said really stuck in my head. I thought that he would really emphasize his international knowledge and give it to Palin, but I didn’t really see that. He talked a lot about Obama’s economic plan, which was definitely a given to talk about.
Gov. Sarah Palin said a lot of things that really stuck in my head, but it was more of her just being her. “Darn right.” She said that a lot to a point I rolled my eyes every time I heard it. Then the part about giving a shout out to her brother-in-law’s third grade class really just got me. I couldn’t believe that she just did that. I understand that doing things like that is a part of her personality. It really shows her as a family person. I just don’t think it belongs in a VP debate. It felt like she didn’t answer many of the answers directly, but was smart to attack Sen. Barack Obama.
I thought that it was smart for both candidates to look into the camera when speaking. They are speaking to American, and I think that’s the best way to grab their attention. It seemed that both candidates held their own and didn’t hurt their parties.
