My Thank You to the University of Mississippi

Dear Chancellor Khayat and University Staff:

The week of the first 2008 Presidential Debate here at Ole Miss is one that they University will never forget. And neither will I. It is a week later and I am still in awe over the entire experience. My week as an intern with CBS was an opportunity that helped me in many various ways. I got to see the ins and outs of a serious televised production and experienced the world of politics from a completely different view point. The CBS television crew took a lot of time not just utilizing us as interns, but using their breaks to tell us stories and give us advice. I feel like I learned much more than I could have read in any text book. It is the combination from experiences like these and the education I receive at Ole Miss that will make me a better journalist and a competitive employee in the future. Plus, CBS kept us well fed!

More than anything I was glad to see the University’s progress noted in the media. The week was truly a turning point in Ole Miss’ image. Journalist showed that they were impressed by how Ole Miss has begun to turn away from the past and embrace a new presence. While Ole Miss emphasizes the fact that they are a “Great American Public University,” I truly believe they should promote the fact that they are so committed to their students and the education Ole Miss provides. Never have I seen a school spend so much time finding every way possible for every student to be able to take part in some aspect. From 150 students attending the debate, to allowing students the opportunity to volunteer, and hosting Rock the Debate, the University of Mississippi went way above and beyond the call of duty.

Looking back at my journal from the week, I noticed I used adjectives such as overwhelming, amusing, breathtaking, and kept reflecting on how blessed I was for the chance. So THANK YOU to all University personnel involved in helping get us students involved. This is one experience that I will always cherish.
