Sergio Garcia - We Found Him, and He is HAPPY !!!

On The Links.........................and At The Prom....

Sergio Garcia's troubles of late have been well chronicled - missed cuts, poor play, and (oh yeah) the endless stream of excuses. From the British Open of two years ago to this year's Masters Sergio seems to have had an excuse for everything. Although the track at Augusta National was not to his liking, his latest round of troubles have been linked to his "personal" struggles - read difficulties with the opposite sex. His relationship with Morgan Leigh Norman has ended (rumor is that she kicked him to the curb....), and according to recent press releases from across the pond:
Garcia said that it had been Morgan’s decision to part. Further stating “Myself, when I am not feeling happy on a golf course and not up for it, that is the way it is. You can’t do anything about it. I can’t do well. Obviously the break-up with Morgan didn’t help. You get over some things. Others take a little longer. “It was her doing, not mine, and it happened the week of Miami. It is unfortunate, one of those things. Do I still think of her all the time? No. It is pretty much back in the past now.” Sergio has been suspiciously absent from the public eye of late, so, the sleuths at Bushwood went looking for him. We are happy to report that we not only FOUND Sergio, but also found him VERY HAPPY. It seems that Sergio has made some, um, "changes" and has really "found himself"., and...well, the article below sums it up better than I could:

DATELINE LOS ANGELES – Sergio Garcia said he felt "invincible" when he was crowned queen of the Fairfax High School dance at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday. Days before the dance, Garcia told fellow students that he was "not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye. He also promised that he would be wearing a suit on prom night, but "don't be fooled: Deep down, I am a queen. And he made good of that promise Saturday, wearing a thong and a tiara."I don't wish to be a girl," he told the Los Angeles Times. "I just wish to be myself." Although many students were supportive of Garcia's run, others were upset and didn't understand why Garcia chose to run for prom queen.
"I'm not really happy about that," said 17-year-old Juan Espinoza. "He should've just tried to win a major..."

P.S. - That's SG on the left in the picture above !!!

Experts Say No Shortage of Balls at Golfsmith ( Plenty of Clubs, too)....

My trusted advisor and star of Fox Business News, Talented Blonde, is reporting that Golfsmith and TaylorMade (never one to shy away from a product promotion) have launched what could be the most costly promotion ever...

According to news reports, Golfsmith plans to REFUND the full purchase price of ALL R-9, R-7 Classic, and Burner drivers sold between today and April 11th. The press release states "Starting today and ending April 11, golfers who purchase one of three new TaylorMade drivers at any Golfsmith store or online at www.golfsmith.com will have the purchase price of their TaylorMade driver fully refunded by Golfsmith.

"We're excited to combine the No. 1 selling driver brand in golf, TaylorMade, with one of the very best golfers in the world, Sergio Garcia, into one event only at Golfsmith," said Martin Hanaka, president and CEO of Golfsmith. "TaylorMade's new R9 driver is the hottest driver in the marketplace, and this promotion will only add to that excitement as we kick off the season in Augusta."

"We are extremely excited about this promotion and for the opportunity to highlight our revolutionary driver technology at Golfsmith, said Bob Maggiore, TaylorMade's vice president of marketing. "Sergio has a lot of fans in the United States.

To learn more about Golfsmith's promotion with Sergio Garcia and TaylorMade-adidas Golf, stop by any Golfsmith store or visit www.golfsmith.com/gosergio.

What's Sergio's role in this promotion ? Ahhhhh, good question. You see, Sergio has to WIN THE MASTERS in order for the refunds to be issued... Sorry, gotta go buy my Powerball tickets now...., you see, I've got a FEELING....

The Official PGA "Talent Rankings" - according to Laci Underall

As many of you know, although I am the primary editor of Bushwood CC, I also have a guest editor - none other than the lovely and uber-talented Laci Underall. Laci is not only smoking hot, she is also a great golfer who can hold her own for 18 holes, and then hang with the best of us at the 19th hole - in other words, she is the PERFECT WOMAN. Since Bushwood is a great place for golfers of both sexes, I decided to turn the reins over to Laci for a post - on whatever topic she chose.

Being the kind of woman we all love, Laci has chosen
to "rank the talent pool" on the PGA tour - from a uniquely female perspective.... So for all you female readers out there, here is the OFFICIAL PGA HOTTIE LIST, replete with specific "attributes" that Laci finds appealing (and for the guys, sit tight - Ty Webb and I are working on the LPGA list....ladies first, y'know. So, withou further adieu, I give you Laci Underall....

Laci: "Well Cash, I've put a lot of thought into this and as cliched as it may sound, "Hotness is in the eye of the beholder". I spoke to a number of girls who though my choices were "not up to par" ...so to speak... and I spoke to girls who find extreme sexiness in guys who leave me cold. I mean, since when did Heath Slocum ever make a girl's heart race? I don't know, maybe it's his last name...phuleez. So, before I even start I acknowledge that my hottest guys won't be everyone's. However they're boys who turn me on and I'm perfectly willing to tell you why.

The fourth runner up is:

Camillo Villegas - You knew he'd make the list, but you probably thought he'd come in at the top of it. Not in my book. There's no denying that Camillo is ripped, and he dosn't hide the fact .Those lips! Those BROWS! The HAIR. That smoldering latin gaze...This Columbian Casanova had us at "Hola" with his fashion flair. A man that can rock the White Belt gets two thumbs up in my book. He's the Anna Kournikova of Golf. the fact. But I can't help thinking of him as ...I don't know....fragile? To me Camillo is the type of guy you want to protect and that takes away a bit of his appeal. The fact that he still made the list shows that I'm pretty sure he could make up for that lost appeal in other ways.

Stuart Appleby -
I like my Aussies and Stuart Appleby is one who's often overlooked where hotness is concerned. Sexy , shaggy, blonde bed head . . .Other Aussies get more buzz, well of course you're going to get buzz when you're a serial movie star dater, but Mr. Appleby is the real deal. A warm, rugged everyman who doesn't over expose his social life.

Stewart Cink - Second runner up is another Stewart with a different spelling and from a different continent. Stewart Cink is an old-fashioned American boy with Southern charm to spare. He's tall (6'4") and handsome and seems a perfect gentleman. But he's definitley got a wild side ... so far he's the only PGA player on Twitter. That's pretty daring if you ask me.

Tiger Woods - You didn't think a hottest golf list would be Tigerless did you? I mean, it's TIGER. Nuff said. No way any list of hot guys in any field could NOT include Eldrick Tiger Woods. The competetive nature, the fist pumps, the perfectly tuned body all of those things = major sexiness, but it's more that that. It's because he's Tiger Woods, and I think that's all I really need to say on the subject. Many will say he belongs at the top and I can sure see their point but when something too obvious, it's probably not going to be what we're ultimately "lusting" for.

And the Hottest?..you're probably wondering, and many will undoubtedly disagree ...strongly...but the winner, in my book is none other than ...

Sergio Garcia. He has a Tom Cruise/ Richard Gere thing happening that is definitely working for the ladies. No, I don't mean the brat who carried on for years when he didn't win I don't mean "el spoiled, sulky niño". The Sergio I'm talking about...the sexy Sergio.... is the grown up who only actually came to the game in '08. He's not afraid to laugh at himself and he's openly appreciative of his fellow players. His once neon colored outfits have been replaced by darker shades - notably signature black on Sundays. Another reason I'm calling this one for Sergio is that I think, despite a lackluster start, '09 is going to be Sergio's year. The year he wins a major. And I think it's going to happen at Augusta National, my that's just my opinion and I'll keep it to myself. I just know what I know and what I know is that el niño has finally become el hombre and in my book, that's Sexy.

A few Honorable Mentions:
  • Andres Romero-Does Argentina make anything but super studs?
  • Fred Couples-The thinking woman's sex symbol on the green. The bad back makes him fallible, attainable. We want to snuggle . . .
  • Adam Scott- Aussie Aussie Aussie!! Smoking hot. Has a Heath Ledger-esque quality, hopefully sans the nasty drug problem. The guy oozes SEX. What's good enough for Kate Hudson is DEFINITELY good enough for us. We likey!
  • Greg Norman- The Golden Boy of Golf. Come on.
  • Aaron Baddely- A Cougar's delight. This young little bunny is just precious. Just fix that banged up grill and you're in business.
  • Ian Poulter- The NEW Payne Stewart, Ian is like the Alexander McQueen of Golf--a fashion bad- boy. and we LOVE IT. As if we needed ANOTHER reason to check out his pants . . .
  • Luke Donald-the Hugh Grant of Golf. We love his boyish looks and charm. And the painting thing gives him that sensitive -guy thing. Yummy.
  • Retief Goosen- Channels Russel Crowe. Rough Rugged South African looks and . . .I just like saying Gooooooooooooosen with a throaty purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Laci: "Well, that's it, Cash - and I all worn out from this"

Cash: " "Ummm, Laci, you are, er, I mean you look sort of worked up ...

Laci: "Yes, and I think I need a smoke, too"!

Cash: "Ok, Laci - Thanks (thinking she should thank ME) I think that wraps us up here...your work is done"

OK GUYS - GET READY FOR THE "HOTTIES OF THE LPGA" COMING SOON - YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED !

Equipment Review - TaylorMade R7 Limited

Intro: In late 2008, TaylorMade introduced (yet another) addtion to the R7 family - the R7 Limited. Being a long time TaylorMade fan/user, I was curious, but also a little puzzled. Curious, because I have played a several of the R7s (the original, the 425, and lastly the SuperQuad), and puzzled because the description of the club (and it's supposed benefits) just did not make a lot of sense to me. Couple that with the fact that I had switched to the 2008 Tour Burner (not to be confused with the 2008 Burner, or the 2009 Tour Burner, etc....UGH !!!), which I was quite happy with - and you have total mental chaos. All these emotions led me to basically ignore the R7 Limited for several months.

The Courtship: During that time, I also started to get a litte pi$$ed at TM - I mean, they only released 4 different NEW drivers in 2008, right ? Anyway, Christmas came around, the spirit of the season softened my inner grinch - and there I was, standing in my local golf emporium holding (and admiring) a TaylorMade R7 Limited. Even though it lacked the solid black "stealth" look of the SuperQuad, it started to appeal to me. The longer, I looked at it, the more I liked it - and in a few short moments, I was the proud owner of a new R7 Limited.

About the Club: The TM R7 Limited has a fairly pronounced "triangle" shaped head, which is a bit of a departure for TM. It comes in a variety of lofts (8.5,9.5,10.5, and 11.5), and is billed as their "best movable weight driver". The head is a nice subdued black, with a silver face and sole - and some pretty cool R7 graphics on the bottom. TM says that the movable weights allow for up to 35 yards of ball movement, based on your settings. Perhaps the best feature (aside from the movable weights) is a bangin' shaft from Matrix. The Ozik XCon is sweet for a stock offering - no upgrade needed. Oh, and Sergio Garcia used this club to win two events in 4Q 2008, just after it was released.
In the Real World:- Looks: The Matrix Oxik XCon shaft is a cool red color, that almost glitters in the sunlight. The black head does not glare unreasonably, and the silver bottom masks wear marks nicely. The silver face also does not show tee marks, and any "sharpie" markes are easily cleaned off with a damp rag. Headcover is solid black, with cool red and white accents. Grade: A

- Sound: As you have come to expect from TM, the sound is a pleasant one - not the dull thud of a Titleist, or the high pitched noise of a Nike or Cobra. I found the noise to be only a little bit more "pingy" (no pun intended) than the G-10 or the TM Tour Burner. Grade: B+

- Distance: Very pleased with the distance - somewhat longer than my Tour Burner, which was my longest driver thus far. Grade: A+

- Trajectory: Loved the medium trajectory offered by the 9.5 degree head and the stiff Ozik XCon shaft. Previously, I had struggled to find a shaft that assisted in keeping the trajectory down, but this one seems to really be the ticket. Grade: A+

- Grip: The TaylorMade rubber grip is so-so. I suggest replacing with the same grip you have on your other clubs as soon as you find time to (that is my personal pref, anyway). Grade: C

- Other: Movable weights, as you may expect, really DO work - I was able to make tweaks to correct for those days when I seemed more likely to pull my shots to the left. After experimenting several times out, I settled upon the neutral setting as I got more acccustomed to the club coming through the hitting zone. However, if you fight a fade, the "draw" setting will definitely get you back in the fairway. Grade: A

After the Honeymoon:Overall, I rate the club highly. It is long, straight, controllable, and I love the trajectory offered by the shaft/head combo. I predict we may actually see an anniversary.... Grade: A

P.S.- In case you have not watched any golf lately, TM has announced the "R9" will be released on 3.20.09 (ahhhh, the ides of March...). Early word is that it has both movable weights AND adjustable face angles (open/closed). Sounds a little wacky to me - more on this club as info becomes available.

Ever wonder why people don't like Sergio ??? Your wait is over...

Readers of this blog know that while I recognize Sergio Garcia's talent, I have little patience for his antics and constant whining. I've read countless articles touting his new found "maturity" and how "winning The Players changed him"... One of my favorite bloggers is a big fan of his, so I try doubly hard to gain some respect for him. Now comes the latest from an interview he did with the Mirror in which he makes the following statements regarding the USA's thrashing of the Euros in the Ryder Cup.

"The US team played their cards well," he said. "They knew where the pins were going to be and the tees and we didn't. The locker-room we had was really, really small and uncomfortable. I wish it had been even half the size of theirs. We had two showers, one next to a toilet."

"At the opening ceremony they played my anthem twice, once when the Spanish flag was raised and once when the Swedish flag was raised."

- Garcia claimed captain Nick Faldo's speech at the opening ceremony had been "too long" and said Europe had needed more than one vice-captain.

Read the entire article for a full on belly laugh. It's sad, because as a hacker, I REALLY admire his iron game and think he has exceptional talent - but when he opens his mouth, he loses me completely. However, in my newfound spirit of brotherhood, I made some special wishes for Sergio - see my post of Jan. 1, 2009 for these. I know you aren't playing for us Yanks to "like you" Sergio, but we buy your sponsor's gear, watch you on TV, and (some of of us) cheer when you win - so for the love of man, PLEASE quit whining and lose with same class as you win with...

Oh, and no more spitting in the cup in 2009, ok ?
