Importance of Talk Show TV

In this last stretch of the campaign season, we will see an increased presence of the candidates on talk shows and late night TV. Many people who are not as politically tuned in, turn to these sources to get to know the "real" person behind the candidate. I don't mean to trivialize these shows or the people that watch them, but you won't hear the whole story. But what you will hear is the candidate's own opinion rather than a political pundit's spin on the story.

History has shown that people tend to vote the person rather than voting the issues. If that is the case this year, then their appearances on these shows may really make a difference. After standing up David Letterman earlier this year, McCain hired a helicopter this time to make sure he could be there. I guess the ribbing he received last time for his no show was enough ensure a return. This week Obama will be on the Daily Show and three different morning shows on Tuesday. As they make the rounds this week, I hope that people look past the chit-chats and dive deeper into the issues.
