If you were anticipating a big bam in the veep debate, then you probably walked away disappointed. On the other hand, I thought both candidates did a fantastic job answering questions they wanted to and avoiding the ones they were uncomfortable with. Unlike the previous Presidential Debate, the VP candidates actually looked at each other, talked to each other, and seemed comfortable around one another. It went rather smoothly. Whew! The tension is gone, and the Veep Debate probably won’t impact anyone like the ones straddling the fence had hoped.
I was fortunate enough to have the chance to go to the Presidential Debate here in Oxford. As exciting as it was and how awesome it is to say that I went, I was a bit let down. I wasn’t let down by the Ford Center’s preparation or exquisiteness, but both of the candidates disappointed me. You could cut the tension between them with a knife. I wanted a heated discussion and debate between the two, but that was not the outcome at all. McCain never even looked Obama. They referred to each other by Senator. I felt like they never really addressed each other but they were talking more to the moderator. That was not the debate I expected. I needed to see a difference between the two. I needed to see passion behind their debating points. Maybe the next debate will be different, but if they are all about change then let me see it!
